Keith Harrington, MSW, LCSW

Practitioner Name Keith is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) who has worked with a diverse array of client populations - in a variety of clinical settings - on both the West and East coasts since 1999. Currently, Keith sees both adults and adolescents (ages 12 and up) in his full-time private practice in Charlottesville. He has particular strength working with young adults, college students, teenagers, families, and men struggling with issues unique to men.

Challenges that Keith tends to treat in his practice include: anxiety; depression; low self-esteem; interpersonal difficulties; complex response to past or present life stressors; school and professional struggles; and adjustment around developmental transitions, particularly adolescence and young adulthood. While generally favoring psychodynamic, family systems, and cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy models, Keith values a holistic approach to therapy, integrating frameworks and techniques that most aptly account for the needs, strengths, goals, and "whole" picture of each unique client.

After completing his graduate education (MSW degree, 2002) at the University of California-Berkeley's School of Social Welfare, Keith chose to continue his training in the San Francisco Bay Area at The Psychotherapy Institute, where he saw adult clients as part of an intensive, two-year private practice training program (2002-04) with an emphasis in long-term, psychodynamic psychotherapy. Aside from his private practice, Keith's most recent clinical endeavors in this community have included therapy work with college students at UVA's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)(2013-14), and with adolescents and their families at The Lafayette School and Treatment Center (2007-13). Keith has been happy to call Charlottesville home since 2007.
